Start with text-preserving compression. Choose image compression for a scan when a smaller file matters more than selectable text.

Target file size

Target file size: 204,800 bytes

Check the receiving site's byte limit. 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes; 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes.

A compression target is not an acceptance guarantee. Check the actual output and the recipient’s current requirements.

How to try a 200 KB target

The preset is 204800 bytes (200 KiB). Portals may use different definitions of KB and MB; check the receiving portal’s current byte limit.

Choose a method for each file. Keep text does not render pages as images, but savings may be small. Image compression lowers page resolution and image quality, and removes selectable text.

  • Add PDFs and confirm the target and each file’s method
  • Start compression and check each result
  • Compare important pages with the original, then download

Target size and readability

A small target can be demanding for a scan with several pages. Check which pages are required, and only remove content when the receiving process allows it.

Missing the target does not establish a theoretical minimum. You can keep the result, accept a larger target, or reduce content where permitted. Do not submit a file you cannot read.

What to check after export

Check actual bytes, page count, page orientation, names, numbers and stamps. The preview shows the selected page; it does not certify the whole document.

Neither method guarantees preservation of interactive forms or digital signatures. Keep the original and inspect the export in the software required by the recipient.

Frequently asked questions

Is 200 KB guaranteed?

No. Compression makes a best-effort attempt and checks actual output bytes against the target. Some files may not get smaller.

Does a small target automatically turn text into images?

No. Each file starts with Keep text. Only choosing Image compression renders its pages as images; an uncertain text check does not change the method either.

Does meeting the size guarantee portal acceptance?

No. The recipient may also require a particular format, page count, readability or signature. Check its current official instructions.
