Add page numbers to a PDF
A contract that needs numbering before it’s bound, a paper that wants the “Page N” format, a report that calls for “1 / N” — compress cat stamps page numbers on every page right in your browser. Styles include 1 / N, plain numbers, “Page 1” and dashes like “- 1 -”; place them in the header or footer, centered, left or right; and start the count from any number. Your file is never uploaded.

Why use compress cat's Add page numbers?
- Real style choices, not just digits: 1 / N, plain numbers, “Page 1” and dashed “- 1 -” all render natively, so the format your report or paper asks for is actually there.
- You set where counting starts: skip a cover by beginning at the body, or pick up at a chapter — set the start value and the rest follows in sequence.
- Placement you can predict: footer or header, centered, left or right — six combinations to pick from, so you know where the number lands before you stamp.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. Set the “Start at” value and the pages count consecutively from there — handy for beginning at the body instead of the cover, or picking up at a particular chapter.
Set the start value and begin the count at the body page. The current version numbers the whole document uniformly, so “skip these specific pages” isn’t in yet; a workaround is to remove the cover, number the rest, then merge it back.
